Lynden Schools forming Planning Committee
Posted on 02/02/2017
The Lynden School District has a need for volunteers to join a planning committee to review district growth in relationship to current facilities and program needs.

Over the past three years, Lynden Schools has experienced greater enrollment growth than anticipated, putting significantly more demands on the district’s current facilities.

A group of volunteers forming the planning committee will review:
• anticipated enrollment growth and facility needs
• growth patterns, both historical and current
• short-term and long-term facility needs
• options to respond to growth and future needs
• program needs

“We’re looking for community members to review the impact of growth on our school facilities,” says Shari Shagren, who is leading the charge of forming the group for Lynden Schools.

Those interested in serving on the committee are asked to contact Shagren at 354-4444 ext. 4. The meeting dates, all at the Lynden Middle School library, are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 7, Feb. 21, March 7, March 21, April 11 and April 25. The committee will make a recommendation to the school board based on its findings at the May 11 board meeting.

Lynden Schools is currently in the midst of building a new Fisher Elementary School, set to open in time for the start of the 2017-2018 school year, and a new Lynden Middle School on previously vacant land along Line Road. The middle school should be open in time for the start of the 2018-2019 school year.
